Reflection

For the first day of this project, I was not confident. I do not consider myself a very good photographer, and was worried that my lack of skills would get in the way of my ideas. However, the actual "blind date" went extremally well. My partner Simona and I get along great, and we both made an effort to make our interviews interesting and a true reflection of who we are. We even continued our interview on the phone at home, discussing our interests and getting to know one another. As the project continues, I hope to improve my photography skills and make my partner proud.

On the day of shooting, I felt a bit overwhelmed. Despite my nerves, I think I successfully experimented with materials and processes that were new to me. My partner brought a DSLR camera, and I got to try one out for the first time. It went better than I anticipated. I also experimented with analog filters, using soap and hair gel on tape to create a dreamlike filter. With my partner's help, I also experimented with lighting. I think that shots with the more dramatic colorful lighting came out best.

On the final day of the project, I attempted to reshoot a few photos. I feel my reshooting as unsuccessful. It felt rushed and I was more concerned with the look of the images than the actual message that needed to be communicated (my partner's personality). If I were to do this project again, I would have planned out my reshoots better instead of trying to recreate the conditions of the previous day. I then moved on to selecting my final shots. This was a confidence booster after the limited success of my reshooting, for I feel that my images accurately reflect Simona's attitude and spirit. While I feel I could have improved the posing and background of my outcomes, I am happy with how they portray Simona.
